Putting together this Bridgerton themed styled elopement picnic was seriously a dream come true. From the outfits to the setting to the INCREDIBLE team that helped pull this off despite all of the setbacks we came across, it is a shoot that I am extremely proud of. Scroll through to find out a little bit more about what we created!
Who here has seen Bridgerton on Netflix? Or read the books? Maybe you have seen the memes or anything on social media and you’re like- what the heck is a Bridgerton?
Well needless to say, I was hooked by the first episode. And so was my styled shoot partner in crime Abbey Rose Events.
So naturally, we had to create a styled elopement inspired by it. With some hints of classic Jane Austen thrown in the mix as well.
Here’s a little backstory behind how we pulled off this “Mr. Darcy meets Daphne Bridgerton in the woods for a little elopement picnic”. Or “The Duke of Hastings meets Elizabeth Bennet in the woods for a picnic”- you get the point. First, we set a date for the middle of February. We knew would be cold, but following recent weather patterns it would be dry enough. Wouldn’t you know that on the EXACT weekend we chose, Portland experienced a freak snow storm. AND the venue we originally were going to use was damaged during that storm. So we pushed the date and ended up moving to a small park next to where I live.
Next, because of those changes, we also were scrambling to find a new couple to model for us since our date change conflicted with our original couple. Luckily we have the best of friends and community, so we were able to remedy that situation just in time. And CHECK THEM OUT! THEY ARE GORGEOUS! Plus, Monty and Clara were SO much fun to be around- my stomach hurt from laughing so much with them.
Lastly, the outfits. You would think that finding Regency Era costumes within a matter of a few weeks in Portland Oregon wouldn’t be that difficult right?! (You can’t hear it, but I’m being VERY sarcastic.) After a few searches on Etsy, a trip to Joanns for materials, and renting from one of my favorite dress rentals Opal and June (with a few minor additions to get the shape just right) we had our outfits! If you’re interested in seeing how I made the vest (YES I DID), check out this reel I created.
