Lexi and Sam’s wedding didn’t go as planned. I mean literally, NOTHING WENT AS PLANNED. When they first came to me with their vision for the big day, I knew it was going to be a party. Like, dance until you can’t dance no more party. But, I don’t think any of us were expecting for those plans to turn into a Mt Hood Elopement like this.
See, after COVID-19 completely flipped their wedding dreams around, the couple kept adapting and readpating to each curveball that was thrown their way. But even when life started giving them lemons they always found a way to make lemonade. Despite having to change their date not once, but twice.
When Lexi and Sam finally pulled the trigger on their new plans for an intimate Mt Hood Elopement, I knew it was going to be beautiful. The couple rented a stunning cabin in the forest. They had planned to say their vows beneath the trees, under a beautifully handmade wooden arch and atop a vibrant woven rug. It was the type of ceremony that wooded Oregon location dreams are made of. And I couldn’t wait to capture it.
Lexi wore a stunning, vibrant flower crown and Sam’s tie perfectly matched it. They had built the archway, wrapped in green leaves and white flowers. It looked as if it was made to fit underneath the canopy of the forest.
Then, just as we, and their intimate group of 8 friends, stepped out under the trees it began to rain. Well, if you’ve been following along with my shoots you know that a little rain doesn’t scare me. But it wasn’t just a little rain, because let’s be honest: when it rains it POURS.
… or in this case, HAILS.
That’s right. It hailed on us.
Luckily Lexi and Sam were experts at dodging lemons by this point. They ran into the house as their friends grabbed all the pieces of the ceremony. They moved the archway and ceremony decor into the living room, rearranged basically everything that was the original cabin decor, and expertly set it up beside the cackling fire.
Then, once everything was in place, Lexi walked down her “aisle” to her favorite person. As they said their vows, the cabin filled with laughter, love and tears. It may not have been the ceremony they originally planned, but it couldn’t have been more perfect.
And right after they officially became husband and wife, the rain stopped and waited for them. So, we ran back out into the woods, where we captured a few of their dream photos, underneath the trees. As the cabin glowed in the background and smoke spilled out of the chimney, we knew that they had just had the perfect wedding. It couldn’t have been planned better.
And in the house, full of love and friends, Lexi and Sam started their next chapter.
As the couple walked back into the cabin, a lively reception was waiting for them. The expert catering team were hard at work in the small kitchen. The whole cabin filled with gorgeous aromas as they filled the guests glasses with champagne.
Lexi and Sam sat along a beautifully rustic table and shared a meal, memories and wine with their closest friends. And while the day may not have gone as planned, it ended up exactly as it was supposed to be.
