Steph and Nathan came to me looking for the perfect engagement photos. They wanted a very natural setting with a fair mix between beach and forest. So, I knew that Depoe Bay would be just the place to explore.
When I was working with the couple to determine what style of pictures they were hoping for, Steph also told me that she loved the idea of incorporating a bouquet into the session. Well, anyone who knows me well knows that I LOVE flowers. In fact, I kind of have a knack for arranging them (flowers were my day job back when photography was just a passion).
So, once I knew that Steph wanted a bouquet, I was determined to make her one. I didn’t just want to incorporate her wedding colors, but I also wanted to give her an arrangement that matched the style of the shoot that she was looking for. After pulling together some of her favorite flowers, I knew that we had just the set of blooms she was looking for.
We started the session out in some cliffs surrounding Depoe Bay. This location really added an effortless seaside vibe that felt very New England. Especially, with the lush green fields and quaint cottages. The area was so romantic, and such a dreamy place to start shooting their engagement photos.
Steph wore a stunning blush dress that really popped against the green and blue backdrop. And, it was perfectly complemented by Nathan’s baby blue shirt. As the two held hands through the tall grasses, I already knew that these were forever photos.
From there, the couple climbed around on the rocky shores. The beach boulders added a perfect bit of depth to their romantic seaside shoot. Especially when the waves crashed against the shoreline.
Now, you all know that I love when my couples maximize their shoots by bringing additional props or outfit changes, and Steph did just that. After capturing her stunning blush look, she changed into a flowy and floral black dress.
With an outfit like that, I knew we needed to up our location game. That’s when we headed over to Fogarty Creek just a few miles up the road. Once we arrived, we found this beautiful stone face full of ferns. It was the perfect backdrop. The towering wall of thick green plants added a sense of perspective to the shoot that perfectly differentiated these photos from those taken on then sand.
Then, when Steph added in her bouquet, the photos got that extra element that they were missing. It looked absolutely epic. Especially with the contrast of the bright blooms against the deep green leaves. After I was sure that I got the shot, we moved towards a different stretch of sand.
With more rocky cliffs lining the background of their photos, Steph and Nathan looked like they were transported to a completely different coastline. I always strive to give my couples tons of variety in their sessions and finding locations with lots of different options is a main way that I do that.
Then, just when we thought the day was done, we found found the forest during golden hour. With the light pouring through the trees, it was the absolute perfect place to cap off their engagement shoot.
If you’re looking to book an engagement session on your favorite coastline I’d love to help you get the most out of your shoot. Just drop me a line!
