This adventurous Cape Kiwanda engagement session was definitely an adventure- from the crazy winds we shot through to losing my car keys… more on that later.
Yadira and Cruz are the epitome of laid back and loving life with each other. These two cuties met over 8 years ago at church and share a love for chocolate, dogs, and movies – my kind of people! And get this. During a late night conversation about their future (and marriage), Cruz popped the question! And Yadira said yes! Such a testament to just how natural these two fit together and how laid back they are. Fast forward to a few months ago when we were deciding where to take their engagement photos. They knew they loved the coast and after throwing around a few options, we landed on Cape Kiwanda. With its varied terrain- red rock coves, sand dunes, tall grasses, and cliffs- it was the perfect adventure spot.
We laughed, we conquered sand hills, and felt all the aches- but for a good reason!
Normally I’m REALLY good about not losing things, especially my keys. They have a clip and I always clip them to my pants during shoots. But it just so happens that I unclipped them while using the bathroom right before the session and didn’t re-clip them. *face palm* Over an hour and a pair of freezing hands later, I was fumbling around in my pockets for my keys and low and behold they weren’t there. As I smiled and waived my couple away, my mind started racing and I admitted to my dear sweet friend (who made the trip out to the coast with me that day) that we had to hike back up to the sand dune to look for them. Cue frantic prayers and coming up with Plans B through Z. Wouldn’t you know that after retracing our steps for almost an hour and trudging through the sand to not find them, they were waiting on my windshield when we got back to the parking lot. Just the keys, nothing opened or missing, and no note.
God bless you kind stranger. You were the real MVP.
All in all, it was a successful adventure session and Yadira and Cruz achieved model status in my eyes.
And if you’re wanting your own little adventure session with me at Cape Kiwanda, let’s chat! Just be advised that it can get pretty windy and there is a trek up a pretty steep sand hill required. But if you’re down, I’m down!
