Amanda and Aaron’s intimate wedding at Fort Vancouver was the perfect mix between traditional and intimate. Since Aaron’s of Scottish heritage, it was very important to include traditional Scottish elements in the ceremony. One of the ways he did this was to wear a traditional kilt. And, to further celebrate that heritage, his best man and their pastor also wore kilts.
To keep with the celebration of Aaron’s Scottish roots, a bagpiper preceded the couple down the aisle playing traditional Scottish wedding music. Then, once he set the mood, Amanda stepped into the church with her mom by her side.
Since Amanda and Aaron chose not to do a first look, Aaron’s first time seeing Amanda was when she walked down the aisle. The moment was monumental. Amanda really took his breath away- I mean you can totally see why!
The couple chose to say their vows in the Academy Chapel at Fort Vancouver in Washington. The soft blue walls with white arches perfectly complemented their wedding colors. As did the the gold organ in the background. Then after they said their “I do!”s, the couple walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. It was one of the moments that Amanda was most looking forward to – the start of their next chapter together.
After snapping a few photos around the church together, the newlyweds and I headed over to their home in St. Johns for the reception. Upon their arrival, the bagpiper paraded them into their backyard where the rest of their friends and family waited to welcome them into their reception. They observed some other classic traditions like speeches and a cake cutting, but mostly the remainder of the day was focused around spending time with their family and loved ones.
By capping off their traditional ceremony with a more intimate backyard reception, the couple was really able to enjoy the best of both worlds. From saying their vows in a stunning chapel, to partying with their people in their backyard, it was a perfect day.
If you’re looking to blend a classic ceremony in with your own micro backyard reception, I’d love to help! Get in touch, and let’s start planning your dream wedding.
